David Storey, Chief Web Opener at Opera, has announced on his blog that the latest internal builds of the Opera browser have advanced CSS3 selectors support.

Some of the new selectors are already enabled in the builds, while others have been implemented but not yet enabled due to technical reasons. All are hoped to be available in a future release version.

With all these changes, where does this leave selector support in Opera once the new additions get released in an official build? Well apart from bugs in any of the implementations, all the selectors will be supported, and the only thing currently lacking is support for the ::selection pseudo-element. Of course there is still a lot of work to do on the other CSS3 goodies that aren’t currently supported.

He has also confirmed that the text-shadow declaration has been implemented in the internal builds; I’d love to get my hands on one and take a look.

I’ve said before that I think Opera is a great browser, and I’ve started using it more for my day-to-day browsing. They have a web developer toolbar, which is one of my biggest demands, but Firefox still edges it for me as the range of extensions makes all the difference. But if you haven’t tried Opera already, you should think about giving it a go.
